------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- From Karen: this all looks great Steve - I grovel in apology for not making the meeting!!. I saw Mihi yesterday - she is all go and is bringing 6 MPA students to help. I will confirm pool. Take me off swimming supervision though - I am on the lunch getting team and my first aid cert is not current! ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- This message was posted by TA on Tuesday 23rd November
Attached are the minutes of the Year 10 Activity Week Team meeting held on Monday 22nd. Thankyou to all those who attended and who put their names forward for duties.
Watch this space for Version 5 of the Staffing Roster for Activity Week. Thanks to RH and JD for doing the 'fine tuning'.

Did you read my last notice (below)? Please do so. Check, too, the Year 10 Activity Week Roster (version 3) to make sure you are booked in for the right days. If you have any suggested changes, please see me asap.
Maxine has supplied me with the bus and grounds duty roster for activity week. Please read the attachment.
I have booked Elise Karena's trailer so Harry can collect the cardboard on Friday 26th Nov. between 2:30 pm and about 4:00 pm. Harry: remind Elise in advance please and arrange to pick the trailer up and to drop it off at her place in Redan Road.
I have talked to Chris (-tine) at Mitre 10 and she is saving boxes. I will ring her some time next week to remind her that Harry will be calling in around 3:00 pm on Friday 26th.
I haven't been able to contact Wendy Masters and Monty Knight on the phone to confirm that they are saving clean cardboard. I wrote to them both but neither has responded. I will continue to try and get in touch with them this week.
I was wondering if flax might be a better product to use instead of string. I would have thought it was readily available. Just a thought.
Do we know yet if we are allowed to use the swimming pool at the nurses' home?
It's time we had a meeting to discuss individual roles and to fine tune the roster. I'll send an email to all concerned - I suspect that not everybody is checking this wiki for notices....
NOTE: I WILL BE GRADUALLY WITHDRAWING FROM THE ROLE OF HELPING TO ORGANISE THE YEAR 10 ACTIVITY WEEK AND EXPECT THAT OTHERS WILL PICK IT UP. (I HAVE ARRANGED FOR 50 SENIOR STUDENTS TO COME TO SCHOOL DURING THAT WEEK TO COMPLETE LITERACY STANDARDS AND I WILL BE WORKING FULL-TIME WITH THEM.) This message was posted by Steve on Tuesday 9th November... Item one: Cardboard for Wearable Arts
I have approached the Kaitaia Recycling Station in Church Road about clean cardboard for the Wearable Arts days. I spoke to Margaret who was filling in for Wendy Masters. Margaret remembered us from last year and entered on their wall planner chart in the office, that Kaitia College would be collecting a large trailer-load of clean cardboard on the afternoon of Friday 26th November*. I also wrote a letter to Wendy Masters to confirm this arrangement. In the letter I indicated that I would call Wendy at the beginning of the week to remind her of our arrangement.
Harry Kapa has kindly offered to pick the cardboard up from the recycling station on that day*.
I also wrote a letter to Monty Knight, asking if he would mind setting aside clean card and boxes for the Wearable Arts. I have yet to hear back from him. If I have not heard back by the end of the week, Friday 19th November, I will give him a call.
I intend to drop in to Mitre 10 some time this week, talk to the boss and make the same request.
Once again, thanks go to HK for offering to collect the card. *Since there is an NZQA examination in the College Hall on the afternoon of Nov. 26th, we will have to find a place to put the card during the weekend. This will mean double handling, but it should only take a short while to deliver the card to the Hall on Mon. 29th Nov. if we have the help of the students.
Alternatively, we could collect the cardboard on Saturday 27th and deliver it directly to the Hall - I have booked the Hall for that day, there being no NZQA examinations.
Item two: Students who are not attending Camp
I have arranged with WT, Vervier and the grounds and maintenance staff, to have any 'extra' students help out with duties around the school so that we don't have the problem of students having to repeat the kapa haka day and / or the wearable art day because they have not paid for Camp. Hopefully, the number of students will be small. It is expected that Clarrie will notify us of just who these students are in the week prior to the Activity Week.
Item three: the latest roster
Attached is Version 3 of the roster. Please check that I have booked you for the correct days and the correct number of days. I have yet to plan the exact times when you are expected to be on Activity duty. I intend to divide the days into two half-days of 3.25 hours each (8:45 - 12:00 and 12:00 - 3:15), then to roster individuals in to half-days at a time.
You will see that I am not rostered into any days. This is because I will be delivering literacy credits to senior students throughout the week. My contribution to Acitvity Week is to do some of the organisation and to monitor the Year 10 students who don't go on Camp.
If you have any questions or queries about any of these arrangements, please don't hesitate to come and talk.

Kiaora koutou..............from Steve (19/10/10)
I have put a draft roster on to its own wiki page "Year 10 Activity Week Roster, version 1" for your information. If you have yet to tell me which day you would like to have off, please let me know asap and I will amend the roster.
Hi there from Richard. 20/.10/10. Succommed to the pressure of determining where I should be in that week!! I would like to have worked with Year 10 group , as this would enable me to be involved in the work done in school and also visit the camp on turnaround . Is this still possible? Thanks . Richard
Hi Steve, Yes that is your complete lot of staff available. The rest of the newbies will be in year 9 activity week or year 10 camp. Maxeen
From KH: thanks for doing that Steve. I put a note for people on the roster page about a few jobs that need volunteers. If anyone can think of other jobs that need picking up by someone, add them there. Colin - are you able to organise the Wearble Arts video for the beginning of those days? Also - have had confirmation from Mihi that she can definitely do the Kapa Haka days, so all good there.
Kia ora it is Yatecy here. Go for it.
Allie Kingi: Just thought I would have a quick nohi...ktk...(thats maaori for lol (laugh out loud) kata tino kata) tino pai Allie
Lisa Chuck: I think Karen has some idea of the plans so far. I'm keen to do the catering again this year. What does everyone else want to do? Thanks Lisa you were the first.
I am a close second - and I will assist with catering as well - Mareea Paitai Thanks again Mareea
Karen: I have booked Mihi to do the Kapa Haka days. I have the funding for the food for the two Kapa haka days. Sylvia is onto it already for the bailing twine for the Wearable Arts day. we need someone to organise the Cardboard.
If you did a job last year, perhaps you could pick it up this year. Steve - do you have a list of the people involved in our group last year? I think you did our roster? Way to go Karen and everyone can see what is going on.
Karen: Note that we have an extra duty this year, as we will be the ones escorting the students to and from camp on the Wednesday. Great chance for those of us who never get to be part of the camp elite to go up for a taster! (Hopefuly they will feed us a scrumptious lunch - hint, hint Clarrie) Plus we get the chance to talk up our second two days on the bus trip home - maybe encourage a few more of the students to put in an appearance. We will feed you guys Karen and it will be a great idea to spend time up there and talk to both cohorts. Have you had any thoughts of setting up a wiki for your Health Department. I can see many possibilities in Health with collaboration and sharing being the main drive.CY
Lisa: Every year we are told or assume that someone else has the responsibility for the yr 10s who don't go on camp, and every year we are landed with them. So I think we do need to come up with a plan this year. Any ideas? Do we need permission slips to go to the nurses hall? If so, should we get it put onto the camp permission slips? Yes this has always been an issue Lisa and it would be good to sort this matter out. Permission forms for these type activities need to be seperate from the camp.CY
Joy: Has been here! Will write later.
Joy: Ok so I'm thinking about the Cardboard Box Wearable Art activity. I've organised this over the last 2 years (or was that 3?). So it's getting easier to do as I have the organiser saved which includes the list of the jobs needing doing and a timetable for the day. I am a part-timer teaching 3 classes. Last year William approved me to be paid an extra day to organise this, but this might not happen this year. Will have to check. If not, someone will have to take over but of course I'll happily help as much as I can. It's a great activity - so cheap, creative and focuses the students on rycling.
Last year Sylvia and I drove around town picking up card from Cycle Sport n Heat, Farmers, Mitre10 and CBEC Rubbish. B/c it's a 2 day thing we hid half the card and then decided if more was needed based on what was used in the first. But there's lots more easy jobs to do and I can attach the list of jobs if people want to see this. Onto it Joy and great to see you make it
Karen: Have booked the nurses rec hall for the kapa haka days. Lisa and I had discussed this and thought the kapa haka days should be first as it is such a great whole-group team building type thing. Unfortunately, the rec hall is not available on the Monday. So have booked it for Tues and Thursday. That means the Wearable Arts is up first for the first cohort, but the second lot will start with the kapa haka. This will work well, as they will then be in the school hall at the end of Fri, and after the Wearable arts judging they can have a practice before the rest arrive back from camp for the Haka-off. Have changed the school hall bookings to fit this. Have put a note in Mihi's pigeonhole to let her know the days - awaiting her confirmation of her availability on those two days. The hospital inform me that someone over here holds a key to the nurses' rec hall - anyone got any idea who that might be??
I personally don't think we need a permission slip to go to the rec hall and would resist all attempts to make us do one! It is right next to the school grounds. There are no roads to cross, no culvets to fall in! Students go to the health clinic on the same property without an eotc form!!! not to mention all the PE students doing road runs. Thanks Karen and Lisa. So organised and yes I agree with you about the comments re nurses rec hall. Deidre. Kia Ora folks. Got a student free day so I can come on board/ then do my PPI I am keen to help get cardboard - so Joy don't do more than you have to. I love Mihi and Kapa Haka in the hall so count me in as dogs body, trying to get the actions to fit the song !!! So I can help where- ever. No museum/local history talk to organise this year so I'm free. Welcome Diedre good to see you here
Kiaora Year 10 Activity Group
Steve here. Unless anyone else has started a roster, I'll get moving on one. It looks like the dates, venues, activities etc. are starting to 'firm up', so I'll run around and find out who will be on board, what their time allocations are, when they are available, what things they would prefer to be involved in etc. etc. Look out for a draft roster some time in the first two weeks of Term Four. If you have any information about your programme that you would like me to consider when putting this roster together, let me know asap.

Should we try to arrange use of the swimming pool at the Nurses' Hall this year or would it create a hassle? (Would they let us use it anyway?) Availability (hours) will be sorted out via discussion between TA, the individuals concerned, MA and WT. Also, if we are going to have the kids swimming, I would suggest that boys and girls use the pool at different times. We may have to get signed permission slips if students are swimming - I could organise this if it's needed. The other thing is, if we are allowing the kids to swim, could we charge them a small fee, to help meet costs? (Or is that a bit mean?) :-) CY
